So what is a podcast? Well, you can see the technical info on it here at Wikipedia. But, trust me, you don’t want to read all that. Basically, think of a “podcast” as a recorded radio show. I record it, my techie-guru hubby does the behind the scenes “magic”, uploads it to a server, and then you can listen to it in a variety of ways.
Since I am technically challenged, my better half has put together some information to help you subscribe to the show. If you are still confused or have additional questions, feel free to send me an e-mail and I’ll forward it to my hubby for deciphering!
You can see a video called “Podcasting In Plain English” if you scroll down to the bottom of this page. It’s less than three minutes long, but is done very well.
Do I need an iPod to listen?
Nope.
Do I need another type of portable media player to listen?
Negative.
What do I need to listen?
Your computer. Luckily, since you’re reading this, you’re already there!
Well then, how do I listen to your Hold The Gluten podcast?
I’m (via my hubby) going to give you a whole bunch of ways to do just that. Check out the info below, and if that option doesn’t make sense, just move to the next one… eventually one of them will work for you!
1. Click the link in the blog post
To listen to that episode right away, go to the blog post of the episode. Click the play icon right below the show notes. It will then play the episode right in your browser window. Easy as pie!
2. Download the file to your computer
Right-click the link shown in #1 above, and choose “Save link as…” or “Save as…” or whatever is necessary that you can save a file from a link. (Note – Each version of Windows, MAC OS, and Linux has a different phrase for this.) Then choose the location that you want to save the file on your computer. The file will look something like, “001_HoldTheGluten-24June2008.mp3″
3. Subscribe in your podcatcher
A what? A podcatcher. A podcatcher is some kind of application on your computer or the web that allows you to subscribe to the show. When you subscribe, the Hold The Gluten podcast is then automatically downloaded to your computer when I publish a new episode! That same program will then let you listen to the show directly, copy it to your media player, burn it to CD or whatever.
4. Add our podcast feed to your feed aggregator
I probably lost some of you on that. If I did, don’t worry, one of the first three will work for you. If I didn’t, then you already know what I’m talking about, and I’ll just give you the links below for just a few of the multitudes of RSS aggregators out there.
