Hi! Your comment about missing Lipton’s onion soup mix reminded me of a recipe from the blog 101 Cookbooks that is the most delicious, mouth-watering all natural homemade version of that mix. It’s more labor-intensive obviously, but *totally* worth it:

Hey Maureen! Thanks for keeping up the great work! I love your podcast and am still listening. Thank you for inspiring me to try to bake gluten-free. I love to bake but have been scared to try to experiment because the gluten-free flours are so expensive and I don’t have a lot of time. But I felt brave this weekend and adapted a recipe from Martha Stewart for Dried Cherry Oatmeal cookies into gluten-free. (I know that some folks can’t eat oats, but they don’t bother me) My 14 year-old says, “I don’t like wheat-free food, it tastes funny.” and then promptly ate a dozen cookies. (He doesn’t like cherries either!)

I just saw the comment about Lipton Onion Soup Mix. I have made my own for years from a recipe out of a cook book called “Make-A-Mix”. Here’s the recipe, I don’t know if you have sources for MSG-free bouillon, but my bouillon is gluten-free. 4 teaspoons instant beef bouillon granules (or 4 cubes of beef bouillon, crushed, 8 teaspoons dried minced onion, 1 teaspoon onion powder (mine was MSG-free) 1/4 teaspoon Bon Appetit Seasoning (I never use this because I have never found it in the store) Combine all ingredients and store in an airtight container. Equals one pouch of dry onion soup mix. I usually make six or seven of these at a time and put them in zipper bags. I have never tasted a difference between this and the real stuff and if you buy the spices at a warehouse store you save $$$$!
